60 years ago, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth journeyed to Canada, and, during a Royal Tour that lasted for almost six weeks, she officially opened the St. Lawrence Seaway. For 60 years, those who were forced to move to higher ground because of the inundation of July 1, 1958, have worked to keep the memories of the six Lost Villages and three Lost Hamlets alive. Through a power point presentation, Jim Brownell, President of the Lost Villages Historical Society, brought participants on a trip through these lost communities and relate stories about what was “lost” on September 29, 2019 as part of the Wolfe Island Historical Society’s Speaker Series.
