Tracing Wolfe Island Social History Through Archived Diaries: Uncovering Women’s’ Voices From the Late Nineteenth Century
Current interns at the Queen’s University Archives, Marissa Little (Arts ’25, Con Ed’26) and Patricia Roussel (Arts’ 24) will discuss their process of scanning, transcribing, and interpreting the 25-volume set of diaries written between 1887 and 1922 by long-time Wolfe Island resident Irene (Dixon) Bamford, known widely as Grama Irene to many.
Little and Roussel’s presentation will focus on the genealogical timelines they have constructed through their consultation with the diaries, as well as sharing other projects which have emerged as a result of this archival endeavor.
